Trims, Powertrains, and Fuel Economy

Volvo makes the five-passenger '23 XC60 in three new trim levels: Core, Plus, and Ultimate. The B5 powertrain is standard; it pairs a mild-hybrid turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (247 hp and 258 lb.-ft. of torque) with an eight-speed automatic transmission. While front-wheel drive is the default, the optional all-wheel drive is much more popular here in New England. The Ultimate trim is eligible for the AWD-exclusive B6 powertrain, which upgrades to a supercharged version of the same engine that makes 295 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque; it also pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The maximum towing capacity across the board is 3,500 pounds. According to the official EPA fuel economy ratings, the FWD B5 XC60s return an estimated 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, whereas B5s with AWD achieve 23 city/29 highway. The B6 Ultimate is rated for 21 city/27 highway.

The 2023 XC60 Core receives fog lights, keyless entry, a power liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, roof rails, a panoramic moonroof, tinted rear windows, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12-inch digital gauge cluster, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, illuminated vanity mirrors, ambient interior illumination, a tailored steering wheel and gear selector, aluminum kick plates, Iron Ore aluminum interior décor, and ergonomic front seats with power adjustments and driver's-seat memory. This well-outfitted base trim even has a Google-based infotainment system with a 9-inch touchscreen that's compatible with both Android phones and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a high-performance audio system with 10 speakers.

The Plus adds some considerable upgrades, such as expanded ambient interior illumination, leather upholstery, Linear Lime interior décor, and power-folding rear head restraints. The top-end Ultimate receives gloss-black exterior accents, four-zone automatic climate control with an air purifier, a graphical head-up display, a crystal gear selector made by Orrefors, a tailored dash, ventilated Nappa leather upholstery, heated and power-bolstered front seats, a driver's seat cushion extender, front passenger position memory, and a cargo area power outlet. Plus, the Ultimate's infotainment system is sweetened by a 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, which is available for the Core and Plus. This elegant trim is also eligible for a truly premium Bowers & Wilkins stereo system with 15 speakers and a four-corner adaptable air suspension.

Advanced Safety Systems

Volvo provides the '23 XC60 with an array of driver-assist technologies for additional peace of mind. In the Core, these include a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, oncoming lane mitigation, rear parking sensors, and an active road sign display. The Plus and Ultimate gain Pilot Assist (which helps you maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you), adaptive cruise control, and a surround-view camera system.

Upgrades

The '23 XC60 may be equipped with a number of optional upgrade packages, which each trim is eligible for. The Climate Package adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and headlight washers, while the Protection Premier Package supplies rubber floor mats, a plastic luggage mat, wheel locks, a first aid kit, and stainless-steel bumper covers. Buyers can also order two integrated outer position booster cushions for the second row. With the Polestar Engineered Optimization upgrade, the 2023 XC60 will get improved powertrain software.
