2025 Volvo S60

After nearly a quarter century, the Volvo S60 is taking its final bow in the U.S. market. This compact sedan, which was introduced for the 2001 model year, makes its departure amid the industry-wide shift toward SUVs and crossovers that has reduced demand for traditional sedans. Through three generations of development, the S60 established itself as a distinctive choice in the premium compact segment, combining Swedish design with competitive performance and technology. Eventually, the S60 got the market’s attention when it became the first Volvo to be built in the U.S.

The current third-generation S60 maintains the model's five-passenger configuration while showcasing Volvo's evolution. Although it matched many German rivals in performance and features, the S60 carved its own path through unique styling and an emphasis on safety innovation. The changes are limited for this final model year: Volvo has merely altered the name of its top-most trim from Ultimate to Ultra.

This overview explores just the standard 2025 Volvo S60. Look for our separate page on the 2025 Volvo S60 Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV).

Trims and Powertrains

Volvo offers the 2025 S60 in three flavors: Core, Plus, and Ultra. All of them are powered by a turbocharged 247-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine enhanced with mild hybrid technology for maximum fuel efficiency. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard with the Core and Plus, while all-wheel drive is optional with these trims and standard with the Ultra. An eight-speed automatic transmission manages both drivetrains.

The FWD S60 has been rated by the EPA to achieve 27 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. With AWD, the fuel economy estimates change to 25 mpg around town and 34 mpg on the open road.

Standard Features

The S60’s Core trim is a well-equipped machine, featuring a panoramic roof, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, power front seats, a driver’s memory system, a 12.3-inch driver display, and power-retractable side mirrors (with auto-dimming), and fog lights. All trims are available with the optional Climate Package, which will add heated front seats (standard on the Ultra), a heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, and headlight washers.
