2025 Volvo S60 Plug-In Hybrid

The Volvo S60 Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) brings a different European take on performance and efficiency in the premium compact sedan segment. With an all-electric range of 41 miles, this electrified five-seater can handle most daily driving tasks without using gasoline.

When both power sources are called upon, the S60 Plug-In Hybrid executes blistering acceleration, reaching 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. Plus, its standard all-wheel drivetrain provides surefootedness in varied conditions.

For 2025, marking the S60's final year in the U.S. market, Volvo simplifies the naming convention by dropping the “Recharge” designation in favor of “Plug-In Hybrid,” while the top-of-the-line trim transitions from “Ultimate” to “Ultra.” The sedan continues to showcase Volvo's characteristic Scandinavian design approach, combining clean exterior lines with a minimalist yet upscale interior.

Trims and Powertrains

The 2025 S60 Plug-In Hybrid comes in three trims: Core, Plus, and Ultra. Each of them uses the T8 powertrain, combining a supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a plug-in hybrid system to produce 455 horsepower.

An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive both come standard. The EPA rates the S60 Plug-In Hybrid at 31 mpg combined when it’s operating on gasoline, while its all-electric operation achieves 74 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent). With both electric and gasoline power in use, the S60 Plug-In Hybrid has a total range of 530 miles per full tank. The 18.8-kWh battery requires approximately 5 hours to charge using a 240-volt home charging system.

Standard Features and Options

The Core trim presents a panoramic roof, leatherette upholstery, heated power front seats (with power lumbar controls), dual-zone automatic climate control, a driver's memory system, and a cabin preconditioning feature (for improved climate control).

Among its other features are proximity keyless entry, keyless start, a 12-inch digital instrument display, power-retractable exterior mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The upgrades for the Plus consist of leather upholstery, enhanced cabin decor and lighting, a cabin air purifier, a power child safety lock, and power-folding outer rear headrests. The range-topping Ultra is equipped with a head-up display, driver's-seat power cushion extension, additional power front seat lumbar controls, front passenger seat memory, and 19-inch wheels. Available wool blend upholstery is a no-cost option. The Black Edition version of the Ultra adds blacked-themed exterior treatments and upholstery that blends Nappa leather with textile.

All trims can be optioned with the available Climate Package, which brings a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and headlight cleaners.

Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology

Every 2025 S60 Plug-In Hybrid includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, oncoming lane mitigation, traffic sign recognition, and slippery road alert.

While the Core has cruise control and rear parking sensors, the Plus and Ultra add Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving capability, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view monitor, and four-side parking sensors. As expected in any Volvo model, there are standard airbags, anti-lock brakes, hill start assist, stability control, traction control, and a rearview monitor.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The infotainment system's focal point is a 9-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen, incorporating Google Built-in services, including Google Assistant and Google Maps. The system supports Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Remote services and additional features are accessible through the Volvo Cars smartphone app. The Core and Plus have a ten-speaker audio system, while the Ultra receives a 14-speaker Harman Kardon setup (an option for the Plus).
