2025 Volvo S90
The luxurious 2025 Volvo S90 continues to represent the Swedish automaker as its flagship sedan, blending Scandinavian design with advanced technology and safety features. This full-sized premium four-door competes with established rivals and excels in several areas, such as class-leading rear seat legroom (40.4 inches). A zero-to-60 mph time of 6.2 seconds also makes the Volvo S90 satisfying to drive. While the S90 is a mild hybrid, Volvo also makes the S90 Plug-in Hybrid, which we cover in a separate overview.
The 2025 S90 is mostly a carryover, with the most notable update being that the topmost trim, the Ultimate, has had its name altered to Ultra. What continues is Volvo’s Complimentary Factory Scheduled Maintenance (FSM) Program. FSM covers recommended standard services for the first three scheduled intervals (10,000, 20,000, and 30,000 miles) over three years.

Trims and Powertrain
Volvo offers two trim packages for the 2025 S90: Plus and Ultra. All-wheel drive is standard, along with a powertrain consisting of an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 295-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s maximized with a supercharger and a turbocharger. Volvo also layers in a 48-volt lithium-ion battery to support a mild hybrid system that recovers braking energy and stores it in the battery to maximize efficiency. Fuel economy has been estimated by the EPA at 26 mpg combined.
Standard Features
The S90 comes with a long list of standard equipment. The Plus starts with leather upholstery, a panoramic roof, quad-zone climate control, heated front seats with power control, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a driver’s position memory system, proximity keyless entry, a hands-free power trunk lid, fog lamps, and 19-inch alloy wheels. Volvo is also known for attention to detail, which explains numerous special touches such as power rear sun shades (on the side doors and window), a cabin air purifier, a parking climate feature (for cabin comfort), auto-dimming rearview and side mirrors, power-folding rear headrests and seat backs, headlamp cleaners, power-retractable side mirrors, and a dual-mode 12-inch driver information display.
The Ultra trim takes S90 luxury to the next level with Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a front-passenger memory system, front-seat power cushion extenders and side bolsters, a head-up display, a tailored dashboard and door-top panels, an Orrefors crystal gear-selector knob, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology
Volvo has long been synonymous with safety; that legacy dates back to 1959, when the company invented the three-point safety belt and licensed its patent for free to other manufacturers. Today, Volvo’s safety focus is on the latest technologies designed to prevent or minimize collisions. Besides a rearview monitor, a full set of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and hill start assist, the features that come standard on the S90 are forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, oncoming lane mitigation, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, road sign information, Pilot Assist (semi-autonomous driving support), a surround-view monitor, adaptive cruise control, and four-side parking sensors.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The S90's infotainment command center is a 9-inch portrait-style touchscreen. It’s used to manage Apple CarPlay, Google built-in (for Android Auto, Google Assistant, Google Maps, and other services), SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth. Sound is delivered in the Plus trim through a ten-speaker high-performance sound system, which is upgraded to a 14-speaker Harman Kardon arrangement in the Ultra. The Volvo Cars app includes remote start, vehicle monitoring, and other services.
